Here is the newly revamped Phone Bag Tutorial!

A great scrap buster or you can grab a kit with everything you need.

MATERIAL LIST:

• (2) 7” x 9” pieces of Cork • (2) 7” x 9” pieces of Fabric for Lining
• (1) 8” long zipper with (1)
zipper pull
• 1-1/2 to 2 yards of 5mm
wide Cork Cording
• 3” of 1/2” or 3/4” wide c
ork strapping

CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS:

From ONE piece of Cork cut the following:

(1) Front Top - 7” x 2”
(1)
Front Bottom - 7” x 7”

From ONE piece of Fabric Lining cut the following:

(1) Front top - 7” x 2”
(1)
Front Bottom - 7” x 7”

Back - keep the other piece of Cork and Fabric Lining whole (7” x 9”).

CONSTRUCTION:

  1. Sew across the closed end of the zipper 1/8” from the end to ensure the pull doesn’t come off.

  2. Open the other end of the zipper and place a mark 1/2” down on both sides. Fold the ends of the zipper teeth down to this mark, making a 90 degree fold in the teeth - baste or glue in place.

  3. With the Front Top fabric lining right side up in front of you, measure 1/2” on the bottom edge from the left side and mark. Place the prepared zipper right side up on top of the fab- ric lining matching the folded teeth with the marking and the outer edge aligned with the bottom edge of the fabric lining. Baste the zipper in place with 1/8” seam allowance.

  4. Place the Front Top cork right side down on top of the zipper and fabric lining, aligning the bottom raw edge. Sew along the edge with 1/4” seam allowance.

  5. Fold the cork and fabric lining away from the zipper so they are wrong sides together and finger press them. Topstitch along this seam with 1/8” seam allowance.

  6. Repeat steps 3-5 with the Front Bottom fabric lining and cork measuring on the top edge instead of the bottom edge.

  7. Cut the Cork Strapping in half creating two Strap Tabs that are 1 1/2” in length. (Optional: Create your own strapping by adding a piece of cork 3” x 1” to your materials. Fold the two long sides to the center and topstitch both folded sides. Then cut it in half to create two Strap Tabs.)

  8. Fold the prepared Strap Tabs in half and baste the raw ends together with 1/8” seam allowance.

  9. Place the constructed Front right side up and set one Strap Tab on the left side, with the raw edges aligned with the left raw edge of the bag, just above the zipper. Baste this Strap Tab in place. Repeat on the other side of the Front with the other Strap Tab, ensuring it’s even with the first one.

  10. Place the Back cork right side up on your table. Open the zip- per on your Front and place it cork side down on top of the Back, aligning all of the raw edges. Place the Back fabric lin- ing on top, right side down. If needed, trim the edges to en- sure all the layers line up.

  11. Place clips down the two sides and bottom to hold the layers together.

  12. Fold the top edge of the fabric lining pieces (the Front Top that’s sewn to the zipper and the Back) away from each oth- er by 1/2”. Then take the four corners and fold them down to meet the raw edges. (Note: this will keep the fabric lining out of the seam allowance, leaving you with a turning gap to turn the bag through.)

  13. Sew around all four sides of your bag with 1/4” seam allow- ance, neatly pivoting at each corner and ensure you do not sew through the folded edge of the fabric linings at the top.

  14. Being careful to not cut through your stitching, trim the corners of the bag and trim the excess zipper end.

  15. Turn the bag through the top of the lining and push out all of the seams and corners well.

  16. With the bag fabric lining side out, bring the folded edges to- gether at the top and topstitch the gap closed, ensuring you sew through only the fabric. (Optional: glue the turning gap closed instead). Turn the bag cork side out.

  17. Thread the cork cording through the Strap Tabs on each side, adjust as needed, and place a knot in each end to secure them. Throw the cork strap around your shoulder and marvel at your creation!!
